A Japanese variety show,\u00a0<em>Unnan no Rough na Kanji de<\/em>, had a May 2010 episode that was part of what was called the &#8220;We Didn&#8217;t Expect that You Would Say OK to Do It!!&#8221; Tour. Here&#8217;s where <em>Iron Chef<\/em> comes into the picture: Iron Chef Sakai was challenged to make fried rice while Iron Chef Chen was challenged to make pasta&#8230;and both agreed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hosts watched Sakai and Chen prepare the dishes and then voted on which dish they liked better without asking each other, and this is where a particularly comic twist comes in: only those who voted for the winning dish got a whole plate! A\u00a0<em>lot<\/em>\u00a0of\u00a0<em>Iron Chef<\/em>\u00a0references including via music (including <em>Show Me Your Firetruck<\/em> and <em>Burn It All<\/em>), so I wanted to make sure you folks got this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As far as\u00a0I can tell (with my limited Japanese, some of which I got from watching\u00a0<em>Iron Chef<\/em>\u00a0subbed or raw), here&#8217;s what I found each dish included. If I missed something, do let me know pronto via comments so I can get it straight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><em>Sakai&#8217;s fried rice<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 Foie gras, mushrooms, lettuce, veal broth\/<em>fond de veau<\/em>\u00a0and olive oil,\u00a0plus the egg as a topping after he appeared to flash fry it (I&#8217;d call it poached, but the white had a fried finish although the yolk was runny)<\/li><li><em>Chen&#8217;s pasta<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 Shark fin, Shanghai crab, olive oil, coconut cream and cheese<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe class='youtube-player' type='text\/html' width='670' height='407' src='http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JkGOaD7bOL0?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;autohide=2&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;wmode=transparent' allowfullscreen='true' style='border:0;'><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><figcaption>Sakai and Chen on <em>Unnan no Rough na Kanji de<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This one&#8217;s more funny and lighthearted, but it is definitely cool.
