Enjoy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Music of<span> <\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Iron Chef <em>Japan, Part I<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">by William \u201cBlissey\u201d Raymer<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A few months ago, I submitted a post on the \u201cKitchen Stadium\u201d message board (partner to this site), asking for any assistance possible in locating music used on the original Japanese and Food Network U.S. dubbed versions of <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Iron Chef<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 I did this in preparation for an audio adaptation of my fan-produced <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Faith of the Heart: An <\/span><\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Iron Chef America <em>Movie<\/em><\/span> script. Little did I know that it would lead me into writing this article.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">For this article, I have viewed all 24 of my dubbed <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Iron Chef<\/span><\/em> episode video tapes (each containing 4-6 1-hour episodes per tape), plus separate tapes for the <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">2000<sup>th<\/sup> Plate<\/span><\/em>, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">New York Battle<\/span><\/em> and <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">France Battles<\/span><\/em> specials as well as downloaded episodes from the Iron Chef Collection File House in order to compile this article.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">For each movie\/TV series I have detected, I will describe which cues are used where (to the best of my knowledge), including Iron Chef Collection episode database code numbers. For the purposes of identification of the used sections of each track, the track number and an acronym of the track&#8217;s title will be shown (i.e.: [9SMYF time code-0:22 to<span> <\/span>1:12; extend to 1:37 for special battles]).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A word of warning: the list in this article is,<em> in no way, <\/em>definitive! If you find some information I have missed, please e-mail me at <a href=\"mailto:Blissey01@yahoo.com\">Blissey01@yahoo.com<\/a>. If your information is proven accurate, I will properly credit you in a future update of this article.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Now, let&#8217;s get down to business. Or, in other words, <em>Allez Cuisine!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>1ST CONFRONT: THE \u201cTRIPLE CROWN\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">When you discuss music used on <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: none;\">Iron Chef<\/span><\/span><\/em>, you must first mention the three films comprising what I refer to as the \u201cTriple Crown\u201d of <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: none;\">Iron Chef<\/span><\/span><\/em> music. The first leg, of course, is <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0101393\/\" target=\"_blank\">Backdraft<\/a><\/span><\/em>, the 1991 fire-fighting drama.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span> <\/span><!--[if gte vml 1]&gt;                    &lt;![endif]--><!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]--><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Composed by Hans Zimmer and conducted by the late Shirley Walker, the soundtrack to <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Backdraft<\/span><\/em> provided the majority of music heard in a regular episode of <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Iron Chef<\/span><\/em>. (2F17 time code: 0:00-1:26)<\/li>\n<li>Another segment of the \u201cFighting 17th\u201d track (2F17 time code: 1:26-2:31) is used as the end credits music for special battles. Examples of this include: the U.S. version of the \u201cKing of Iron Chefs Grand Finale\u201d (ICC episode number <a href=\"http:\/\/filehouse.ironcheffans.info\/index.php?act=view&amp;id=137\" target=\"_blank\">736c<\/a>), the U.S. version of the \u201cMr. Iron Chef 1995\u201d Final (Michiba&#8217;s Retirement Special (ICC episode number <a href=\"http:\/\/filehouse.ironcheffans.info\/index.php?act=view&amp;id=46\" target=\"_blank\">401b<\/a>) and the <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">21<sup>st<\/sup> Century Battle<\/span> <\/em>(ICC episode number <a href=\"http:\/\/filehouse.ironcheffans.info\/index.php?act=view&amp;id=145\" target=\"_blank\">901<\/a>). The \u201cspecial battles\u201d end credit music was also used in the U.S. version of the 1994 Lamb Battle between Iron Chef French Hiroyuki Sakai and challenger Mario Nakagawa. (ICC Episode number <a href=\"http:\/\/filehouse.ironcheffans.info\/index.php?act=view&amp;id=183\" target=\"_blank\">215<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Nearly the entire 0:00 to 2:31 sequence of \u201cFighting 17<sup>th<\/sup>\u201d<sup> <\/sup>was used in the \u201cIron Chef Data File\u201d seen exclusively in the original Japanese version of the \u201cKing of Iron Chefs Grand Finale\u201d (ICC episode number <a href=\"http:\/\/filehouse.ironcheffans.info\/index.php?act=view&amp;id=260\" target=\"_blank\">736cOA<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Track 3, \u201cBrothers,\u201d is often heard during segments in which Chairman Kaga has a wise statement (or two) regarding the day&#8217;s theme ingredient. This section plays prior to the <em>Allez Cuisine<\/em> start call where it shows \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Challenger&#8217;s Name vs. Iron Chef&#8217;s Name \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0XXXXXXXX Battle (7YGWG time code-0:34 to 0:55; extend to 0:58 as needed).<\/li>\n<li>On the original <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Backdraft<\/span><\/em> OST, \u201cYou Go, We Go\u201d shifts next to the Iron Chef&#8217;s profile cue. As indicated, the track normally goes from 22 seconds into the track to 1 minute and 12 seconds in for a normal episode.\u00a0However, when the cue is used for a special battle introduction, such as the summoning of the Honorary Iron Chefs, the ICM cue is extended by an additional 25 seconds.<\/li>\n<li>Then, there is the \u201cpost-match interviews\/end credits\u201d cue (9SMYF time code-1:38 to 3:32, at which point the track ends), which plays over the post-match interviews with the judges\/challenger\/supporters\/Iron Chef, if any. If an episode has no post-match interviews, the end credits (9SMYF time code-2:43 to 3:32, at which point the track ends) begin after the scores are shown.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Next up is the second leg of the \u201cTriple Crown\u201d of <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Iron Chef<\/span><\/em> music-the 1987 U.S. Civil War drama <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Glory<\/span><\/em>, composed and conducted by James Horner. This music is also used as the Iron Chef&#8217;s profile cue when an Iron Chef is making a solo ascent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And lastly in the \u201cTriple Crown\u201d is the 1993 bio-pic <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story<\/span><\/em>, composed and conducted by Randy Edleman.
