There is no new Iron Chef Yomigaeru episode tonight, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to share another classic Iron Chef special with you.
Tonight, I present the Iron Chef World Cup 1995. Kaga is taking Kitchen Stadium to, well. . .an actual stadium.
Some things to look for in the first ten minutes:
–Kaga makes quite an entrance.
–I love the parade of all the previous challengers (look for your favorites).
–And how great would it have been to sit in the stands and enjoy the live orchestra and choir presenting the theme music.
The first challenger is the head of a three star restaurant in France, Pierre Gagnaire. (You may remember him from the France Special and the recently added BKS video that followed Takeshi Kaga to various restaurants to celebrate his milestone years.) Next is an Italian chef whose restaurant rated 19.6 out of 20 in an Italian restaurant guide similar to the Michelin guide, Gianfranco Vissani. The third chef in this World Cup challenge is from the Regal Hong Kong Hotel, Hui Shing. And finally, we have Iron Chef Rokusaburo Michiba to round out the quartet of master chefs.
We get to see highlights from the two preliminary battles that were held to determine the finalists.
–Gianfranco Vissani vs. Pierre Gagnaire in the Europe battle with a theme ingredient of Maguro (Tuna)
–Rokusaburo Michiba vs. Hui Shing in the Asia battle with a theme ingredient of Ika (Squid).
Michiba vs. Vissani in the final. Who will be crowed the champion of Iron Chef World Cup 1995.
Ep. 339OA – Iron Chef World Cup 1995 – Michiba vs. Vissani – Duck – 10/6/1995
This episode is in Japanese with NO subtitles.
Since there was no new episode this week, I thought I’d put up a couple of classic episodes for everyone to enjoy. Today, I am happy to present two battles featuring Iron Chef Italian Masahiko Kobe.
The challenger is a chef from Kanazawa, home of the great Rosanjin and Iron Chef Japanese Rokusaburo Michiba. He is skilled in creating Kaga cuisine. The Iron Chef is riding a 3-battle winning streak into this challenge. The theme is Shirako (Cod Soft Roe), not exactly a staple of Italian cuisine. Can the young Iron Chef overcome this obstacle to continue his winning ways?
Well, we don’t know quite yet. One battle is not enough to decided the winner between these two chefs and we are going to Overtime!! Both battle were very close, with the judges split 2-2 both times. In the overtime battle, only 2 points separated the scores. Who will end this challenging day with a victory?
544sub – Shirako (Cod Soft Roe) Battle – Masahiko Kobe vs. Kazunari Takada – 11/28/1997
545sub – Botanebi (Pink Prawn) Battle – Masahiko Kobe vs. Kazunari Takada – 12/5/1997

Nineteen years ago today (10/10/1993), the first episode of Ryouri no Tetsujin aired on Fuji TV in Japan. To commemorate this birthday, I’m posting an episode that is very special for a couple of reasons. First, this is an 85 minute “no-cut” episode. That means it is 85 minutes long and shows the entire 60 minutes of cooking. I don’t believe I have any other “no-cut” episodes up at this time, although more are coming soon. The second reason this episode is special is the Iron Chef doing battle. Most fans of Iron Chef outside of Japan have seen only one battle (110 – Chicken) featuring the first Iron Chef French Yutaka Ishinabe. Of course, it was the only battle he lost. (Thanks, Food Network.) Now is your chance to see him do battle again. There are many more “new” episodes to be posted in the next couple of weeks, including a never before seen special.
315OA – Karei (Flounder) Battle – Yutaka Ishinabe vs. Tomoyuki Sawaguchi – 04/14/1995
This episode is in Japanese with NO English subtitles. This episode is in two parts.
This episode is a “no-cut” episode that lasts 85 minutes and features the full 60 minutes of cooking time.
I have uploaded this episode in the format it was received (.MPG). The zipped file containing both parts of the episode is a very large file (5.5GB). I have also uploaded the usual smaller .avi versions for those without the space/bandwidth for the larger file.
ATTN: There is a problem with the audio in the .avi files. I will have to fix it tonight when I get home. Sorry about that, everybody. I have re-encoded the avi files and uploaded them again. The Watch Video links and Download links for the smaller .avi files should work properly now.
The challenger is a chef at Kihachi China. He trained under and worked as the right hand man to two-time challenger (and Shin Tetsujin) Wakiya Yuji. He was head chef at a restaurant started by Wakiya and Iron Chef French Ishinabe. The theme ingredient is super fresh as it was delivered from China that day.
This episode is in Japanese with English subtitles.
Tooru Matsushima is now chef at China Garden Qi Lin. (Sorry I couldn’t find any English links)

The challenger is a chef who creates traditional French dishes and will not be influenced by fads. He trained at the best of restaurants in France, learning the latest trendy dishes. When he returned home, he found that 80% of his customers were native French who preferred more authentic French cuisine.
Chef Keiji Azuma is currently the head chef at Chez Azuma in Shibuya, Tokyo.

Today brings the 200th challenger to Kitchen Stadium. The Chairman received a letter from famed chef Joel Robuchon suggesting a special challenger to mark the special occasion. He is Maurice Guilloet, the head chef at Robuchon’s restaurant, Taiyuban Robuchon. By age 20, he was training at Robuchon’s 3-star restaurant in France. At the young age of 23, he was already head chef at the restaurant. (Chef Guillouet is currently at Nirvana in Paris.
