When I saw this commercial today for the first time, I knew that I had to post it here right away. Today’s addition to Beyond Kitchen Stadium is a wonderful Japanese commercial for Nissan. (Of course, Nissan was one of the primary sponsors of Iron Chef in Japan.)
Where do I begin to describe this outstandingly strange commercial. It begins with Chairman Kaga thinking about how he has loved his Nissan Laurel for quite a long time. We then see a young 10 year old Kaga saying, “my car” while riding in the back seat and eating. (Apparently, his flamboyant style of dress began at an early age.) Kaga is then shown looking at a picture of himself when he was 20, hanging out with his friends, and still wearing an elaborate blue jacket. He drops off his friends, then gets slapped by Asako Kishi. (Huh?) The commercial ends with Chairman Kaga driving his Laurel away from the sizable mansion that presumably houses the Gourmet Academy and Kitchen Stadium as his “staff” looks on.
You simply have to see this commercial as there is no way that my description does it justice.

We all know that there were a lot of battles in Kitchen Stadium involving out of this world/expensive theme ingredients . But we tend to forget that some theme ingredients were everyday foods like fruits. For this week Fruit Theme, we have added an episode that few people have seen, the banana battle.
- Chocolate and Apple (305) – Iron Chef Sakai versus Fuyuko Kondo
- Chocolate and Pear (407) – Iron Chef Sakai versus Seiji Yanagi
- Mango (615) – Iron Chef Kobe versus Yousei Watanabe (He’s the only chef specialized in mexican cuisine to have appeared on the show.)
- Banana (706) – Iron Chef Kobe versus Hironobu Tsujiguchi**
New in the video database this week: Mango (615), Banana (706)
The following episodes may be found by searching our video database: 305, 407, 615, 706
**Special thanks to DoomTurtle for sending us his tape and to Tuthead for ripping it

I’m sure most of you already know that Stage6 will cease operation on February 28th. The only reason we are here on this site is because of the great Iron Chef channel that Lostbabee started on Stage6, so it is sad news.
We will do our best to take up the slack that the loss of stage6 might cause. I promise that every episode that was available on stage6 (as well as a few that were not on there) will be here at some point. We will continue with our weekly Episodes of the Week entries as well as adding new Beyond Kitchen Stadium videos. We are well on our way to reaching our goal of being the largest Iron Chef episode and video database anywhere.
Thank you all for your continued support.

Yes, the greatness of Iron Chef was recognized even on the Disney Channel. The show that was all the rage with the tweens back in the days before Hannah Montana had a mention of our favorite cooking show.
It’s a short little clip that would take longer to describe than it would for you to go watch it.
This video, like all of the others in Beyond Kitchen Stadium, is available for download or viewing in our files section.

What is better than watching a close Iron Chef battle? Watching a battle so close that it needed overtime to be decided. This week’s additions to the database include a pair of classic overtime battles.
- First up are the battles between Iron Chef Rokusaburo Michiba and Lin Kunbi from October 1995. Battle Potato (341) and Battle Sweet Potato (341OT)
- Our second overtime offering features Iron Chef Chen Kenichi and Liang Shuqing from 1998. Battle Pork Belly (617) and Battle Konnyaku (618)
- Our third and final overtime battle is considered among the best battles ever fought in Kitchen Stadium. Of course, I am talking about the epic battles between Iron Chef Chen Kenichi and Dominique Corby. Battle Foie Gras (728) and Battle Asparagus (729)
New this week in the video database: Potato (341), Sweet Potato (341OT), Foie Gras (728), Asparagus (729)
The following episodes may be found by searching our video database: 341, 341OT, 617, 618, 728, 729

Did you know that they actually announced two new Iron Chefs before the show went off the air? This clip shows the “new” Iron Chefs, Iron Chef French Mitani Seigo and Iron Chef Chinese Wakiya Yuji. Too bad they didn’t get to do battle as Iron Chefs. (Wakiya battled twice as a challenger in episodes 223 and 510.)
I believe this video is from The Millenium Cup special that aired in 2000. It did not air on Food Network.
