At least, it has arrived in Japan. It’s Friday, October 26th in Japan right now. (As I’m writing this, it’s still Thursday in the US.) In about 10 hours, we will see the first new Iron Chef episode in Japan in 13 years. I hope to have some audio/video/pictures from the special up on the site some time Friday night. If anyone else finds links to information about the special, please let me know and I’ll gladly post them here for everyone to share.

UPDATE1: Iron Chef Japanese Kurogi Jun. Iron Chef Chinese Wakiya Yuji. Iron Chef French Suga Yuusuke. 4th Iron Chef is not there. They appear to be choosing one from the challengers. Now we know why they were called “nominees” instead of challengers. (I obviously didn’t understand about the 4th Iron Chef. Apparently it’s like before where Iron Chef Italian only shows up when he is doing battle.)
UPDATE 2: First battle is Miyanaga vs IC French Suga – Sake (Salmon) Battle. Weird hearing “Sano San. Sano San.” from the floor reporter.
UPDATE 3: The first battle is over. The winner is. . . Iron Chef French Suga 4-1. As expected, Iron Chef Chen nominates his son for the second battle. The second battle is set. Chen Kentaro vs Iron Chef Wakiya Yuji. The theme ingredient is Agu Buta (some kind of pork. I will look it up.)
UPDATE 4: The second battle is OVAH. Tasting is in progress. The winner of the second battle is. . .IC Wakiya 5-0.
FINAL UPDATE: That was fun. It was worth getting up early. I’m curious to see if they do anything differently for the regular episodes. I’d like to see the challengers “choose” their opponent rather than the Chairman just announcing it. The new music wasn’t bad, and I did hear some music from Backdraft at least once during the show. I’ll try my best to get some pictures (and maybe even some video) up tonight.

Heather says: Another thing! Tamaki’s phrase appears to be “グッド ガストロノミー” / “Good Gastronomy”, rather than Kaga/Mark’s “Allez Cuisine”…
Sanji Himura says: The reason why I left that out in the write up is two fold, one is because at the time the original Iron Chef Japan was made, the Japanese didn’t have an equivalent translation for “Go Cook.” Kaga, butchered the french necessary to say, “[You] go Cooking”, simply said, “Allez Cuisine”. It gets the job done, but it is grammatically incorrect as the proper phrase would have been, “vous deux la cuisine go.”
The other reason why I left it out of the write up is because the show has evolved since the Japan cup in 2002. There were quite a few ways to start the battle thrown around, but what was ultimately adopted by the rest of the world was not the same as what Kaga/Mark says in their respective shows.

Miwa says: Chairman and reporter were not use to their work yet and not as much powerfull as old one. Too quiet game. But I expect the next time. Staffs are not used to yet.
Chen Kenichi’s face was about cry with son’s fight with Wakiya who knocked down him before. Kentaro lost but he is too young also he worked for Italian first years and changed to Chinese when father fell down to keep running his restaurant. So short carrier. Wakiya took care of Kentaro since he was a little boy, at that time he was already fighting with his father. It was just the beginning. Kentaro will get bigger and stronger more.
On the other hands, Ysuke Suga, Japanese challenger was just a part-time worker at Japanese Izakaya bar first, and then, becamse one of the assistants at old IC as his temporary job. In 1997 world cup, you can see his great support to Mr. Komei Nakamura. Michiba found his talent and hunted him into his restaurant. But he is still young too. Joel Robuｃhon’s world brand is still too big for him, right?
Both of them will be expected more in the future’s revenge match.

The new IC seemed to start with quite different back ground from old one’s. Chairman said it is pitiable that the good chef with fantastic skill has no customer at their reataurant because peopple tend to have first food for their meal in current society. They can not show up their skills. So he invested all his private money into buillding up kitchen stadium. So seems no relationship to Kaga-san.
