The first regular episode of the new Iron Chef airs in Japan in a couple of days. I’ve kind of painted myself into a corner calling this “Iron Chef 2012” because when it continues for a few seasons, that name won’t really fit any more. What are we calling this new Iron Chef revival show? New Iron Chef? Iron Chef 2: Electric Boogaloo?
I also need to figure out how people prefer I name the files. I have always put the season number in the file name, and I’d like to continue it with this show as well. I’m open to any suggestions.
The first special showed up in various places within a day of it airing in Japan. I hope we have the same success finding/sharing the first of the regular episodes. Heather says: I’ve been calling it Iron Chef Redux on tumblr, another blog just has it as “Return of Iron Chef” and a lot of people have just simply been calling it “the remake”…
Backup says: I’ve been referring to it as ‘the revival’ on TV Tropes, ‘Iron Chef Revival’, maybe?
TC says: I’ve been calling it Iron Chef Revival as well, at least on torrent files. The standard shorthand for Iron Chef shows is IC followed by the letter of the country. Iron Chef Revival kind of works there, since we can all call it ICR for short… Though if they make Iron Chef Russia we’ll be screwed.
The funny thing is, the show wasn’t called Iron Chef until it came to the states. That name was a translation. Now it literally is “Iron Chef.” So we’re trying to come up with a new name in the States to replace the old name in Japan, which is actually the older name from the States, which is a loose translation of the oldest name from Japan.
Alex says: Honestly I say call the original Ryori no Tetsujin and the new one just Iron Chef… technically that’s both of their names
Iron Chef: The Next Generation? 😉 I think for naming the files, you could just call it IC2012, then add the rest of the numbers/letters. We’d know what you mean anyway, even if it spilled over into 2013+. Just a thought.
